Learning Objectives:

Course Significance:
Elder abuse is a crime that affects a significant number of seniors. It is difficult to discuss and often difficult to recognize, so most cases are not reported to authorities. This course will help you understand what elder abuse is, how to recognize it, ways to prevent it and how to help someone affected by it.

FET 380B: Building Your First Online Course, Part 2: Creating Canvas Training (6hrs)

We will explore in depth how to use Canvas to build an On-Demand course platform.  You will decide how to set up your training, how learners will register, and how you will accept payments.

During the face-to-face day, we will help you install and set up your training and start creating your course.

By the end of Part 2, you will create, receive feedback on, and be ready to list your first On-Demand course in ECE-TRIS.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Completion of FET 370 Beyond Fundamentals: Introduction to Developing and Facilitating Online Training and FET 380: Building Your First Online Course, Part 1 is required before you can take this course.

Building Your First Online Course (Part 1)

Have you noticed an increase in providers utilizing on demand training? Have you been interested in building an on demand web-based training, but just not sure how to start? 

If you have been interested in learning more about the technical side of getting your first course online, this course will go beyond the basics you learned in Beyond Fundamentals: Introduction to Developing and Facilitating Online Training.

In this first part of Building Your First Online Course, you will be given an overview of multiple course platforms, including Canvas and WordPress.  We will take you through the process of planning, creating, launching, and maintaining your online course.  

*Completion of FET 370 Beyond Fundamentals: Introduction to Developing and Facilitating Online Training is required before you can take this course.

Completion of FET 370 Beyond Fundamentals: Introduction to Developing and Facilitating Online Training is required before you can take this course. This course is geared towards trainers who are interested in creating online courses, but need additional training and support to build their courses.

Part II, which you may register for separately after Part I, includes pre-work, post-work, and a contact with a trainer.  We will explore, in depth, how to use WordPress and Canvas to build a web-based training. You’ll make decisions about setting up your platform and accepting payments for courses. During your trainer contact, we’ll help you with the installation and setup of your platform and getting started with creating your course. By the end of Part II, you will create, receive feedback on, and be ready to list your On-Demand course in ECE-TRIS.

We are creating a waitlist for Part II face to face days, and are open to exploring 1:1 or Independent study options for completing the course.

SCCC 127: Aging

Learning Objectives:
There are many myths and stereotypes about the aging process and  what older individuals need and want. This course will dispel some of those stereotypes and provide a more accurate description of what it means to grow older today.
 
Course Significance:
Individuals that work with seniors frequently state that they have a passion for working with the elderly. A servant heart is critical to those in this profession. It is also important to  recognize  some of the  challenges facing older Americans today. This course will provide some  basic information to help senior center staff understand  some of those challenges and what they can do to help.

ECE 108: Advancing Equity in Early Childhood – Awareness and Respect (1 hour)

According to the NAEYC, above all else, we shall not participate in practices that are disrespectful, degrading, or emotionally damaging to children. A foundational awareness of our own potential for bias is key to ensuring that teachers show respect to children and to themselves.
This introductory training will provide participants with the knowledge to begin working to advance equity in their Early Childhood Education settings. Trainees will learn the definitions of key terms, how equitable learning supports young children’s identity development, and the impacts of implicit bias in early childhood. Trainees will engage in self-reflection to consider their own background, culture, knowledge, and biases and to return with goals for future growth. This training is geared towards child care providers in all settings who serve all ages of children.

Course Significance:
The seniors we serve are susceptible to many diseases. We can help prevent some of those diseases by serving meals that provide the proper nutrition. This course looks at three of the most prevalent diseases: osteoporosis, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The lessons will help you understand how each disease affects the body, who is at risk of getting the disease, and how nutrition can help prevent the disease.
