Welcome to Beyond Fundamentals: Putting FET to Work! Your course facilitator is Christine Hausman from the Child Care Aware Professional Development Services (formally known as Training Into Practice Project – TIPP) at the University of Kentucky. You may remember Christine from FET! She is looking forward to working with you as you develop your own customized training session on a topic of your choosing.
This online Seminar includes three, sequential Modules to be completed over a 4 week period. It is important to get started right away and that you pace yourself. You move on to each subsequent assignment once the prior assignment has been successfully completed and a completion point has been submitted by the Course Facilitator. The assignments are submitted for feedback, which can include some back and forthbetween you and Christine. She may need up to 3 business days to provide you with individualized feedback before you can proceed. Please note: this is not a course where you sit down at the computer and finish in one, 7-hour session. It generally takes the full four weeks.
As you proceed with the online modules you will want to keep these things in mind…
Flash is required for this course. To access the free download go to get.adobe.com/flash.
Pace yourself to allow time for feedback from the course facilitator
Please feel free to contact Christine if you have any questions! We know that online learning may be new to some of you and you may need some assistance. Do not hesitate to call!
Once you receive your Trainer Credential you can be placed on a Professional Development Registry. This is a registry of trainers hosted through ECE-TRIS at Eastern Kentucky University and is optional.
On the trainers credential application there is a place to indicate if you would like to have your work email and phone number published. You are able to modify these responses through ECE-TRIS at any time.
Credentialed Trainers are also enrolled in the Trainer’s Credential listserv through Child Care Aware of Kentucky, providing you with notifications of training announcements and opportunities.
Regulations need to be reviewed and followed
As a Credentialed Trainer, you need to be aware of the Kentucky Early Care and Education Training Regulations (effective 11/15/06; revised 7/1/14 and again on 6/17/2021).
As a credentialed trainer you will be able to offer early care and education clock hours for your trainings. These clock hours can be applied towards licensing requirements, Kentucky All STARS, and for Trainers Credential renewal hours.
If you plan to conduct training in a non face to face format such as an online module or a virtual Zoom training, effective 6/17/2021 credentialed trainers are required to complete FET 370: Introduction to Developing and Facilitating Online Learning. This is a free two hour course. To register go to: https://www.hdilearning.org/courses/fet-370-beyond-fundamentals-tech-for-trainers-online-course-development/. This training is required by credentialed trainers to be provided access within ECE-TRIS to issue credit for online/virtual sessions.
There are a few policy clarifications that all trainers need to be aware of. Full Policy Clarifications can be found on the Child Care Aware of KY and Division of Childcare websites.
Training Your Own Staff
With the exception of Head Start:
An owner or employee holding a trainer’s credential is not permitted to train staff employed at the same Child Care Center or Family Child Care Home at any time.
A Credentialed Trainer employed by an organization that manages multiple early care and education centers/homes may train all participants as long as the credentialed trainer address is not the same as the training participant’s.
If you have specific questions or concerns, please reach to your Training Coach.
Guest Speakers
A Kentucky Early Care and Education Credentialed Trainer may partially utilize a non-credentialed trainer/guest speaker during a training session without registering the training event when the following guidelines are met:
All Early Care and Education training sessions must be conducted under the direct supervision and guidance of a credentialed trainer, who serves as the lead trainer for the session.
The lead trainer is responsible for ensuring that the training design, content, materials, and delivery method of the non-credentialed trainer/guest speaker adhere to Kentucky Early Childhood Training Standards and recommended practice.
A credentialed trainer must be present at all times during the training session and must deliver no less than 60% of the training in order for clock hours to be awarded.
An example of a guest speaker may be an expert on a specific health or safety topic.
As specified by regulation, if an event or training is not being offered by a credentialed trainer, or is college coursework, it must be approved by DCC. There is an online process for requesting approval for an event or training offered by a non-credentialed trainer. This application can be found on the ECE-TRIS website. The application must be completed and submitted at least 30 days before the training. Effective July 1, 2012, an individual not holding a Kentucky Early Care and Education Trainer’s Credential may apply for a maximum of five (5) cabinet-approved training events per calendar year.
