EMP 106: Job Development and Employer Engagement

Course Objectives

  • Contrast the ‘old way’ of doing job development with an individualized job development process based on student skills and interests, family involvement, employer needs, and job negotiation.
  • Describe student involvement in the job development process, including the Student Positive Personal Profile.
  • Identify the role of families in the job development process, including the Family Interview process.
  • Describe job development and employer relationship responsibilities.
  • Describe strategies to build employer relationships and develop a professional network.
  • Describe the basic approach and components of an Employer Informational Interview.
  • Describe the basic components of the Employer Proposal letter, to match the employer’s needs with the student’s skills, interests, and experience.
