Consent Approval Example

Let’s take a look at this example and determine the best action.

Dr. Ima Emmdee contacts you stating that the individual under guardianship has an infection in their left great toe that has not improved with antibiotics. Dr. Emmdee states that the next line of treatment is amputation, but the procedure is not emergently necessary. What should be your next action?

a.) Request that the physician contact the DAIL Nurse Consultant.

b.) Obtain the Physician’s Request for Consent Requiring Court Approval from two physicians who have examined the individual and are not in the same practice. Request recent progress notes from each physician recommending the procedure, and obtain the most recent History & Physical.

c.) Request that the DAIL Nurse Consultant contact the physician.
