Most of the funds in the Guardianship Trust Fund come from the Guardianship Unclaimed Funds Registry.
As required by922 KAR 5:180, the Guardianship Unclaimed Funds Registry is established and maintained to provide notice to the public for potential claims.
Upon death, if an individual under guardianship’s remaining estate totals under $10,000, the unclaimed funds are submitted to the registry for posting.
Funds in the registry may be claimed by a creditor, heir, or beneficiary.
After one year on the registry, the individual’s unclaimed funds are deposited into the Guardianship Trust Fund to provide funding to indigent individuals under state guardianship.
