Dr. Young

I promise we will talk about the test, but first I want to
talk with you about how Craig is doing and check him out a little bit.

(checks the chart) 
Hmmmmm. He seems to be getting back to his birth weight and doing nicely.
Working with the lactation specialist seems to have helped.  Tell me a little more about his breast
feeding.

Mrs. Brown

It is going well.  The
lactation specialist showed me how to support his chin while he is sucking, so
he gets a better seal and doesn’t have to work so hard.

Dr. Young

Good.  How often does
he nurse?

Mrs. Brown

Every 2 to 3 hours.

Dr. Young

How long does he nurse from each breast?

Mrs. Brown

It takes him a while. 
About 10 minutes on the first breast, but then he slows down and it
sometimes takes him 15 minutes or longer on the second.  I try to make sure he is feeding enough.

Dr. Young

Well, you’re doing a good job with feeding him, since he is
gaining weight nicely.  How many wet
diapers does he have a day?

Mrs. Brown

I don’t know – probably at least eight.  I change him every time I feed him.

Dr. Young

That’s about right. 
How many bowel movements?

Mrs. Brown

He has one just about every diaper change, but not
much.  It looks like little yellow seeds,
just like with his sisters.
